Jordan’s King Abdullah warns Israel-Iran war threatens global stability, urges urgent global action
Calling for urgent international action, King Abdullah cautioned that the global community risks moral complicity by remaining silent.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II, speaking before the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday, warned that Israel’s escalating military offensive against Iran risks plunging the region—and the world—into deeper instability.
"There is no telling where the boundaries of this battleground will end... the attacks on Iran threaten a dangerous escalation in our region and beyond," said the King, in a speech that painted a grim picture of unchecked conflict in the Middle East.

Calling for urgent international action, King Abdullah cautioned that the global community risks moral complicity by remaining silent.
"If our global community fails to act decisively, we become complicit in rewriting what it means to be human," he said.
"If Israeli bulldozers continue to illegally demolish Palestinian homes, olive trees and infrastructure, so too will they flatten the rails that defy moral grounds."
Sovereign Palestinian state
Reiterating Jordan's longstanding support for Palestinian rights, he underlined the urgent need for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
"Global security won't be assured until the global community acts to end the three-year war in Ukraine and the world's longest and most destructive flashpoint, the eight-decade-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict," King Abdullah said, referencing global crises that he believes demand simultaneous attention.
He expressed concern over what he called the normalisation of war crimes and human rights abuses in Gaza, citing the collapse of international mechanisms intended to protect civilians.
"What was considered an atrocity 20 months ago has now become routine," he said. "Weaponising famine against children, targeting of health workers, journalists and children have all become normalised after the failure of the international community."
The king called on Europe to lead with resolve, positioning the EU as a crucial actor in the path toward peace.
"Europe's leadership will be vital in choosing the right course of history," he said, affirming Jordan's continued support for the EU.
"This conflict must end, and the solution is rooted in international law. The path to peace has been walked before, and it can be walked again if we have the courage to choose it and the will to walk it together," King Abdullah said.
